To determine potential sites for a new library in Queens, a Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis was performed using ArcGIS Pro. Scores were assigned to each criterion ranging from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest) with certain criteria being assigned more weight such as the distance to an existing public library (3 times more) and density of new residential units from 2003 to 2013 (2 times more). These scores were then tabulated in a weighted map using map algebra. Finally, 3 vacant lots were selected based on an analysis of the lots with the highest means of weighted scores.
Considering the new development in Queens, the current distribution of libraries, and the populations targeted by library programming, where might a new library be sited in the borough?
